"Joy, I definitely think we've passed this rock before." The tall, young blonde girl gazed down at the aforementioned rock which, in all honesty, resembled many other common rocks one might find along a forest trail. One side of the rock was covered in moss and lichen (did that really point North or was that just an old wive's tale?) and it was nicked and dented from years of just sitting here. Doing its thing. Being a rock.
The Oddish that was currently being held in Kennedy's arms wriggled until the girl released her grip. She plopped painlessly to the ground and toddled over the the rock, examining it closely. Still spellbound and caught up in that first Pokemon feeling, Kennedy watched her purple grass type intently. "Odd," Joy finally declared, with a shake of her tiny body (which was, essentially, her head).
Kennedy frowned thoughtfully. "Really? Well. I'm glad you pay enough attention to know that we're going the right way." Totally unnoticed by the girl was a sign in the shape of an arrow nearby pointing to the next city on their route. If it was any salve to the embarrassment Kennedy would later feel, she had, at least, been going the right way.
"All this walking stuff kind of stinks, you know," she said, deciding to sit upon the rock which had been the subject of her study mere moments ago. "Of course, you probably do know, given that you poor little legs probably don't get you very far very fast." The Oddish nodded in agreement before mimicking her trainer's actions and plopping down on the ground.
"A little break won't hurt anything. It's not as if the town is going anywhere."

Lyle HanniganThe forest was cool, compared to the desert he had recently exited. Though, having his jacket on constantly didn't help anything. As usual, the tall, dark haired boy was walking alone, looking mysterious. Having any of his Pokemon out might give someone the idea that he was a trainer, which meant interaction with people. And that idea made him sick.
People were disgusting. Most Pokemon were disgusting, too. The usual scowl darkened his features as he broke through the treeline and saw a girl. With a swear, he jumped back, hoping she hadn't seen him. She was a tall blonde, though she was sitting down. On a rock. She had a Pokemon, which as a member of Team Darkness, peaked his interest. However, the Oddish was too weak to actually mean anything. He sighed, rolling his eyes as he walked back out into sight. "What are you, lost?" He asked, scowling at her. His day had been bad enough, with his catching a Pokemon on accident. The Bellsprout had just fallen out of a tree. How the thing had gotten in the tree in the first place was beyond him, but somehow, he had managed. He stared at her as he walked about ten feet away and stopped, waiting for an answer.

Lost in thought, Kennedy hadn't even heard the other person approaching until he spoke, which gave her quite a fright. She jumped in small surprise, blinking rapidly a few times before focusing her gaze on the guy who had just spoken to her. He didn't seem particularly charming, what with a scowl on his face and an edge to his voice. Perhaps reading into her trainer's slight unease, Joy edged closed to Kennedy's leg, peeping out from behind it to keep an eye on the strange man. Perhaps the little Oddish wouldn't be able to much in case of an emergency, but it was her obligation to look after her trainer.
"No. Well, I thought we were but Joy here figured out that we were going the right way." She spoke pleasantly enough and with a tiny smile, despite the man's scowl and bad attitude. Might as well not poke the embers of a fire with a kerosene-soaked rag, after all. As luck would just so happen to have it, it was by looking up at the strange man that Kennedy noticed the sign, now glaringly obvious. "Noticing that sign may have helped my case," she murmured, more to herself than him. With one fluid motion, Kennedy was on her feet, still looking at Lyle with a mixture of curiosity and reservation evident in her green eyes.

He obviously sucked with people skills. But thankfully, the girl wasn't too obnoxious. When she stood up suddenlt, he staggered back, though he was a safe distance away from her. Seeing the Oddish's protectiveness, he assumed she was a new trainer. "Rookie, eh?" This might be the prime oppertunity to rid himself of the troublesome Bellsprout.
He stood with his hands in his pockets, his gaze following hers to the sign. "Yeah, it might have." He said, shrugging as his gaze traveled back to the young trainer and her Oddish, apparently named Joy. One of the Pokeballs on his side lit up, releasing his Beedrill, Sting. He hovered in the air near his trainer's head, watching the Oddish with a bored expression.

The boy's reaction to her standing up didn't go unnoticed. She gave him a funny look, her head tilted slightly to the side. "You didn't think I was going to jump you or something, did you? I promise you I'm completely harmless." She held up her tiny hands as proof, with a small shrug and smile. Maybe she could get this crabby guy to loosen up a bit. Maybe. If not... well, was it really even likely that she would ever see him again?
At his question, she nodded in the fashion of one completely unashamed. After all, everyone's a rookie at some point, right? "Yep, I just got Joy... oh, I dunno, maybe an hour ago?" She accompanied her statement with a wave back toward the general direction of Acorn Town.
Ever the curious little Pokemon, Joy emerged from her pseudo hiding place behind Kennedy's leg. She toddled over to where she was almost directly beneath the Beedrill, looking so far up that she was in danger of falling backward.
"Be careful, Joy. Beedrill can be kind of touchy sometimes." She cast a furtive glance to Sting. "No offense to you, Mr. Beedrill... sir."

Harmless, she said. Yeah, he knew she was harmless, but the thought of actual physical contact made him sick to his stomach. He glanced at his Beedrill, who let out a buzzing chuckle.=None taken, miss.= Sting was the most polite of his Pokemon.
Only an hour ago? Perhaps she'd be estatic and not question why he was giving away a Pokemon. "Well. Do you want this?" He asked, venom in his voice as he took the Pokeball off of his belt and held it up in a closed fist. The damnable thing was too clingy!!
His scowl lightened just the slightest bit as he stared at her, wondering if she'd take his offering. The sooner he was rid of the damn thing, the sooner he could leave this place.

Maybe this strange man was one of those people that had such an intense phobia of germs that they shied away from physical contact. Maybe he had emotional issues. In any case, it was clear to Kennedy that the trainer wished to keep at least a seven foot radius around him that was free of people. At the Beedrill's reply, Kennedy nodded graciously in the Pokemon's direction. Gee, his Pokemon seemed pretty nice... Kennedy couldn't help but have a small frown on her face as she pondered Lyle's oddities.
The next question that left Lyle's lips shocked Kennedy for two reasons, one being his tone and the other that he was just offering her a Pokemon right out of the blue. She blinked once, considering the Poke Ball in his outstretched hand. "Well, what is it?" she asked, Joy mimicking Kennedy's habitual head tilt that came with curiosity. She was very deliberate in showing that Lyle's sudden tone had not affected her in the slightest bit; best not to look like an easily startled wuss.
"You know, we've been standing here talking for a while and haven't exchanged names. To be frank, I like to be honest when I say I don't talk to strangers, so I'm Kennedy." She didn't offer her hand to him, knowing he wouldn't take it even if she did.

He scowled. He had been hoping to avoid this. "I'm Lyle." He said, sighing heavily, relieved that she hadn't tried to shake his hand. "It's a low level Bellsprout. I have no intrest in it, so if you don't want it, I'll just leave it for someone else to find." He muttered, glancing at his incredibly well mannered Beedrill with ;what are you doing; eyes.
The big bug Pokemon had left his master's side, wandering over to the feminine duo. =My name is Sting. How are you ladies doing today?= He asked, though his attempt to make up for Lyle's rudeness seemed awful pointed, in a way. True, Sting always tried to be a ladies man. Lyle scowled, glaring at him. "Get back over here and quit hitting on them." He said, disgusted by the mere thought that a Pokemon he had raised would even consider even acting like that.
"As a matter of fact, return." He said, and the red light shot out of the Pokeball in his other hand as Sting was recalled. However, the moment he was inside his ball, Chomp decided to make an appearance, hiding behind Lyle's leg. He closed his eyes, breathing heavily, as though stressed, out his nose. "Do you want it or not?" He spat harshly, wanting to be away. However, the Gabile at his leg had other plans, and was slowly creeping forward. Chomp was very lovable, if you could get past the fact that he chewed on almost everything. Lyle rolled his eyes, sighing.

"Lyle. That's a nice name," she commented almost absently, more preoccupied with the Beedrill that had drifted over in her direction than anything. However, once her previous question had been answered, she turned her full attention back to Lyle. "Oh, well that's very nice of you to offer! I'd be glad to take it off your hands for you." It didn't escape Kennedy's notice that the trainer had an almost venomous attitude toward the Bellsprout (and probably people in general), but she was getting offered a free grass type, so how could she refuse? Even if it was just a Bellsprout and probably capable of taking care of itself, Kennedy still didn't like the idea of leaving it here on its own.
The friendly Beedrill was speaking again, and just as Kennedy was about to answer him, his trainer cut in and said something about the Beedrill hitting on the ladies before promptly returning him. …hitting on us? Hmm. I thought he was just being nice. I guess it's kinda cool to know I'm pretty enough to get a Beedrill's attention. At the thought, Kennedy giggled lowly to herself, not really wanting Lyle to overhear and be curious as to what she was laughing about. She had a suspicion that even if he was curious he wouldn't ask; the trainer seemed ready to leave the company of two at any moment now.
Just as Lyle managed to reign in his flirtatious Beedrill, another of his Pokemon decided to come out and play, much to his annoyance. Upon seeing the little land shark Pokemon, Kennedy positively squealed, clapping her hands happily together. "Oh, your Gible's so cute!" she exclaimed happily, peering down at the Pokemon with a happy shine in her eyes. At first, the Gible seemed shy, hiding behind Lyle's legs. However, the small dragon was creeping forward within minutes, much to Kennedy's delight.
Having remained still until now, Joy began to toddle forward as well until she was within a one foot radius of the Gible. As soon as Joy got close to the Gible, she stopped moving and peered at him in wonder. She had never seen this Pokemon before! It was all rather exciting to her.

Chomp took another step forward, looking at Joy. <Hai.>He said, and Lyle sighed, tossing the ball towards the girl. <I's Chomp.> The little monster looking Pokemon said, staring at the blue ball of Pokemon with grass sticking out of her head. He hadn't ever seen one of these. At least, not that he remembered with his bad memory.<You look funny. Can I eat you?> He asked out loud, still staring, then without waiting for an answer, moved to close his jaws on her head.
Lyle dashed forward, grabbing his Pokemon with both arms and doing a tumble/roll. "I thought I told you that you weren't allowed to chew on living things!" He hissed, somehow not noticing that he was only about five feet away from Kennedy. Too close for his own comfort. <But she's grass!> Congrats! Lyle gave you a Bellsprout!Male Level 7 Vine Whip, Growth OOC|| ((If you can think of Stitch's voice, that's about what Chomp's is. XD))

Kennedy caught the Poke Ball with aplomb, grinning widely at the sphere in her hand. It was an awfully nice thing for Lyle to do, even if he didn't want the Pokemon. "Thank you," she said in earnest, slipping the Poke Ball into her white slingpack. There would be time for introductions later, when the little Bellsprout was away from his original trainer and could therefore be saved some confusion.
After storing the Poke Ball safely away, the blonde looked down to where the Gible and Oddish were interacting in just enough time to see Lyle's Gible about to chomp down on Joy's head! With a small gasp, Kennedy leapt forward and protectively seized Joy. Apparently, Lyle had had the same thoughts about stopping his Gible, for Kennedy was now four or five feet away from him and definitely in his bubble.
"Sorry," Kennedy murmured to him, backing up a couple paces. Joy squirmed busily about in her arms, proclaiming at the same time, <I am NOT grass! I'm a Pokemon, just like you! How would you like it if I decided to bite down on that little fin of yours, hmm?> Within a moment of saying that, Joy slipped out of Kennedy's arms and landed on the ground with a small thump and bounce before making her way back over to Chomp, eyeing him sharply.
"Now now, Joy. Let's not forget that with all of those teeth he has to chew on something and you do look a bit like a plant," Kennedy commented, attempting to smooth the situation over. The little Oddish merely 'hmped' and continued to stare the Gible down, awaiting his reply.

He glanced at the trainer, not having realized how close they were until she, thank heaven, moved. He swallowed heavily, acknowledging her thanks with a nod. Then he looked at the apparently brave Oddish, blank faced, before looking down at the squirming Gible in his arms.
"If you even try to bite her again, I will personally see to it that you are thrown across this forest like a football and then you'll be kept in your Pokeball for a month." He hissed at the little mouth with fins, who was staring at the Oddish again. He jumped down, waddling over to Joy, saying nothing to his master. <But you look like an onion. Do you taste like an onion?>

"Well, that was a wee bit awkward," Kennedy chirped cheerily. She really had no idea of what else to say at the moment. Anyway, what did you talk about when you were talking to someone who, for all intents and purposes, appeared to be extremely antisocial Kennedy could understand not wanting to talk about yourself, but requiring distance from all people? Curiouser and curiouser.
Upon hearing Lyle's threat to his Gible, Kennedy arched an eyebrow. She felt confident that Joy could survive being bitten by Chomc, but if that was the way that Lyle taught discipline, then so be it.
<No, I must certainly do not taste like an onion.> Joy eyed Chomp warily. <And don't be tempted to taste for yourself, either. Your trainer will punt you so far into the forest that it might take days for you to find your way back to him.>

<How do you know that you don't taste like an onion?>Chomp ventured, tilting his head to the side as he stared at Joy with a blank expression. He honestly didn't want to eat her, but he found her reactions funny.
Lyle turned his head, looking at the female trainer with slight intrest. Someone had actually respected his wishes. Normally, everyone wanted him to be all touchy-feely-friendly, and he didn't like that. He shrugged. "I've had worse awkward situations." He said, pulling the sleeves of his jacket down and running a hand through his hair absently. Only those who knew him or read people very well could tell that the actions were nervous habits.

Joy paused to consider the small Pokemon's question. True, she had never tasted herself, but all the same she highly doubted any Pokemon tasted like regular food. <I just know> she replied simply, rustling the leaves atop her head in an authoritative manner.
"Oh, I'm sure you have. Glad to know that I wasn't the worst," Kennedy replied amiably. Although the young trainer was curious as to why Lyle seemed so determined not to have contact with anyone, she felt that it would be rude to ask. Searching for something to say, she finally decided upon, "I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time or anything. I would hate to have been a bother."
