Hey, I was thinking... In order to make fighting fair, I think that it should involve rolling a di. You know what I'm saying?
Let's say that each pokemon starts out with a set amount of hit points, such as twenty.
Level 5 Growlithe - 20 hps.
It faces another pokemon that is a higher level, so the difference in levels is added to the hit points.
Level 8 Oddish - 23 hps.
The Growlilthe attacks the oddish using Ember. The user rolls a ten sided di (there are online dice rollers) and it lands on any number that is not a 1, 5, or 10 the attack hits. If it does land on a 1, 5, or 10, then the attack misses.
Growlithe used Ember - Oddish took the hit.
To extract the hit points, you just use the number that you rolled. If you had previously used an attack or an ability to boost your attack power, than 1 point is added to whatever number you roll on the dice.
Growlithe (Flashfire) used Flamethrower - 5+1 hps were deducted from Oddish. Level 8 Oddish - 17 hps.
Let's say the oddish used some kind of defense boosting attack, then you would deduct a point from Growlithe's attack.
Growlithe (Flashfire) used Flamethrower - 5+1-1 hps were deducted from Oddish. Level 8 Oddish - 18 hps.
See where I'm going with this?

I find using a dice rather.. impersonal between the staff and members, and it would require constant babysitting over trainer fights as well as modding them. And I dislike the idea of using dice because one could very easily lie about what they rolled.

And that's why I ask all staff to interrupt battles that have members constantly dodging each other's attack, and for all members to also point it out to them. c;
