"Its still following us, isn't it."
It wasn't really a question. Marley had been seeing flashes of blue out of the corner of her eye, ever since she had met the stubborn little creature. She frowned at the growlithe that was plodding steadily by her side along the forest path. He nodded in agreement and turned to glance back at the shiny mew which was still hovering serenely behind them.
Marley gave a tired sigh. Apparently this legendary wasn't competent enough to understand when he was trying to be ditched. She had been sure that if she led him to this forest, he would remember it and stay behind. Mew was supposed to have created this forest, right?
"Well, I guess we'll have to do things the hard way," she muttered to Bruiser who looked a tad confused and alarmed at the same time.
"Don't worry, I'll go easy on him," she assured the growlithe.
She turned and faced the mew who emediately flew over to them happily. Marley winced at the adoring expression on the legendary's cute face.
"Listen, you can't keep following me like this. I mean, its not like I wouldn't like to keep you, its the principle of the matter. If people saw you following me around everywhere, it would attract a lot of trouble. I would be up to my neck in crooks and thieves and being a cop, I already see my fair share of those already. So, do you understand? That's why you can't come with me."
She waited to see what the pokemon would do. At first, it didn't seem to register what she had said. It just floated there unblinking but then it gave a delighted cry and flew over to Bruiser who looked just as startled as Marley. There was suddenly a flash of blinding light, in which Marley had to shield her eyes. Blinking away the white spots in her vision, Marley looked down to see, not one growlithe, but two.
"W-what?" she stammered, looking between the two identical growlithe; well, almost identical. It was quite easy to tell her Bruiser apart from the other growlithe because it just happened to be of an odd gold coloring. It was a shiny.
Bruiser barked happily and the shiny growlithe followed suit. Marley was still extremely confused.
"Did you just evolve into a growlithe?" she accused the once-mew.
"No, wait. I get it now, you used transform to do that. Amazing!"
Now that she thought about it. That attack would be very useful. She could have mew turn into other pokemon and it could help her on her missions.
"Well, I guess I have no other excuses. Welcome to the team... er... I think I'll call you... Taffy."
She took out a pokeball, enlaged it and rolled it towards the shiny growlithe. It gave a joyful howl and tapped the pokeball with its nose. The ball opened, absorbed the creature and didn't even twitch before the capture light went out. A moment later, Taffy popped out again, this time no longer a growlithe but back to his mew-self again.
Marley grinned at her new pokemon. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to own a legendary after all.
