Name
Fawn Stanton
Age
19 (October 2nd)
Gender
Female
Appearance
She stands at a standard 5’5, with a lean build and soft features. Her eyes are wide and of a dull grey. A scattering of freckles marks her peachy skin, across her nose and a little on her cheeks.
Her face of default is a rather pleasant expression, with a soft smile. The most striking thing about her is her white-blonde hair, if one was into that sort of thing. It falls in loose waves to just under her shoulder blades, with soft bangs skimming her brow. She’s not particular about her clothes, but tends towards skirts, long-sleeved tops, and outfits that have a polished/business-like appearance.
Personality
If you see her on the streets, you’ll be greeted with a smile.
She’ll even help a person with a quick problem. But she never forgets a favor.
And if you happen to strike conversation with her, she’ll likely keep in touch. She maintains her relationships with political meticulousness, even including those with people she doesn’t like; a preemptive measure, just in case she could ever benefit from a connection with that person in the future.
A few would call this insincere or two-faced behavior; Fawn calls it business protocol. Either way, what else could be expected from an ambitious member of Team Darkness?
History
Fawn had an ordinary upbringing. The daughter of Rob and Leah Stanton, she grew up with her only brother, Hunter. At least, she’d often imagined that her life wasn’t different from the norm, but being perceptive and innocent as all children begin, she knew something was off. Family members shouldn’t compete with each other; yet the environment she grew up in was very cold and conducive to selfish tendencies. There was a distance between her parents and her. While they put a roof over her head and provided her with the best material goods that large amounts of untaxed income could buy, they didn’t give her warmth or nurturing; and following her parents’ example, Fawn withdrew into herself and became very independent.
Her parents were both ranked officials of Team Rocket, the major crime syndicate in her home region. Her brother joined at 13, receiving a Houndour and doing fairly well. Fawn expected as much, but the 9 year old knew she would be better than him just from the very fact that she was who she was: a single-minded girl who got what she wanted.
She finally joined Team Rocket when she reached 13, and got her first Pokemon: a Stunky that she grew to rely on more and more as the years passed. She quickly took to the guard duty and busy work that Grunts were expected to do. Being the last person in her family to join the organization that drew them all in, she was focused on showing them that she belonged there. She typically surpassed quotas and did a little more than expected, expediting her move up the ranks.
She received her second Pokemon — a stolen Eevee — as an incentive for being an efficient member. The rewards and affirmation doled out by the wealthy organization were intoxicating to the young Rocket, and inspired her to be the most productive member she could.
Her big break came when she was 17. She was on a job with four other Rockets; the mission was to seize two specific Pokemon that the Boss had been keeping his eye on. It was risky enough that it was broad daylight; that the target Pokemon were owned by a minor celebrity, who currently had them in a battling tournament; and that this was all taking place on the confined space of an island, but the plan went off without a hitch. That is, until the inevitable bump in the road that came from an unexpected place. The Rocket in charge of orchestrating the escape had bailed because he couldn’t find a place to land with the tightened security on the island.
The squad captain called for an abortion of mission, to which Fawn pitched a suggestion. She thought of an alternate escape option, though there was really only one other choice if they couldn’t fly off of the island. Though she hadn’t found a boat yet, she firmly believed they could still succeed under the circumstances. While the Captain hesitantly positioned himself to abduct the targets, Fawn lifted the keys to a docked motorboat from an old fisherman. Because she needed time to maneuver the boat to the north side of the island, it was at her signal that the other two members created an explosion at the south end of the battlefield, shaking the ground. In the ensuing panic, the Captain was able to seize the Pokemon using specially altered pokeballs. She instructed him to run towards the north pier and jump off. In a complete surge of adrenaline, he took the plunge.
Meanwhile, the robbed trainer had been fast on his tail, but was not suicidal. Below, Fawn’s Vaporeon was able to cushion his fall with a Water Gun geyser, and with the captain climbing into the boat, she sped off to retrieve the other two Rockets.
Fawn’s exit strategy was hasty and maybe unnecessarily risky; on top of that, she overrode her Captain’s judgment. But because it resulted in success, the squad was rewarded by the Boss. She herself attained a middle officer rank in her home city.
Few members outside that group saw the promotion as legitimate, as she was rumored only to move up so fast because her own parents were high-ranking. Some of the grunts under her supervision did not give her the authority she should’ve held with the position. The claim was angering and hurtful to her, as she rarely even worked with her parents. She was finding out more and more that such was the nature of the business, but she was still young and this was her first major upset. And as far as she knew, maybe her parents did have a hand in her promotion.
Add to that the bitter taste of Team Rocket’s frequent overall failures, despite the best efforts of the company’s underlings, and Fawn’s frustration reached a new high.
She began to resent Team Rocket, this organization that had her unconditional dedication for most of her youth; and questioned its direction. The whole “world domination” angle now sounded obtuse, and honestly looked hopeless. When she heard of Team Darkness, she saw a completely different scenario. Its allure was that it was relatively small and new; focused on a specific scientific aspect of Pokemon, rather than the explicit objective of total global conquest; and was completely independent of her family. If mistakes and failure are the only way to learn, then Team Rocket had provided her with years of lessons that were the only thing she was grateful to them for.
She joined Darkness and followed them to the Kyoto region. She was given an Oddish to supplement her team. Though she started over as a grunt, she found it a small price to pay for the freedom it gave her.
